Mitigation Banks & Sites

Wetland and stream mitigation banking is becoming an increasingly common means of satisfying the compensatory mitigation requirements of Section 404 of the Federal Clean Water Act. By September 2007, there were at least 41 approved and operating mitigation banks in the State of Georgia, and over 70 additional banks had been proposed (at least conceptually) to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineeers.

As part of the initial phase of the mitigation banking process, Nutter & Associates conducts a detailed feasibility assessment comparing the site potential for wetland and stream creation, restoration, enhancement, and/or preservation with the opportunity to market mitigation credits in the bank's service area.
